These 11-11 Facts about Tmall 2018 will Blow Your Mind:
2018 11-11 numbers ended 26% higher than 2017 numbers, totaling $30 Billion in sales.  40% of all sales are from international companies, the top five countries within the first hour were: Japan, United States, Korea, Australia, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Spain, New Zealand and Italy.   The United States rounded out the top 5 countries for total sales. The 2018 11.11 has been on everyone’s mind.  It looks like they did it again, increasing numbers from 2017, despite the talks of a trade war hitting the Chinese consumer appetite.  The numbers are incredible and shows the market continues to be a growing consumer market. What did they do differently, put a big focus on ‘new retail’ which aims to bring the online products of the business to offline?  This follows a trend that many of the mini-programs are bringing to the market. Consumers are expecting to be able to seamlessly move from one to the other.

Europe Launches First EU-China Virtual Reality Cultural Tourism Fair
Virtual reality is now being used in many ways to promote travel however the EU is taking it a step further by hosting the first-ever B2B conference.  The platform is a digital recreation of standard travel fair with DMOs, tour operators, airlines. Read more here.

The world is becoming more digital every day, from self-driving cars to AI news anchors to now digital Avatar powered conference.  Today destinations are looking for ways to reinvent the traditional trade shows to lower cost and increase access to different markets.  Although, as a digital agency, we believe it is important to stay up on all digital trends this one is more of a wait and see how it goes.  Face-to-face is still very important and there are digital tools that call help your destination better service the Chinese trade, such as developing a strong B2B WeChat channel that can enhance in-person connections and provide information to the trade.  A complete Digital conference just might be a bit over the top.

After 10 years of construction, the Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland is set to open with 18 floors underground. The property also boasts its own waterfall, which is adjacent to the hotel.
